It’s January again. A time when we annually declare with gusto that we are ‘out with the old and in with the new’! This really will be the year that we say goodbye to our bad habits at long last. We’re more determined than ever. Especially after all the feasting and lack of exercise over the holidays!
But how many of us are truly able to live by this maxim as the days of the New Year pass by? Good intentions are wonderful things and they can feel extremely powerful in the passive. Unless our willpower is rock solid in the active sense of the word, though, it’s all too easy to succumb to the temptation of the office biscuit barrel, the elevator over the stairs … and the lure of having one more quick scroll on our mobile phones before bed.
So why do we have such a hard time committing to all of these things that we know will improve our lives? When we step back to think about it logically, it makes little sense.
