Since the beginning of the year, Covid-19 has dominated the news and our lives, curbing free movement, claiming over a million lives across the world and impacting the economy to a large extent. As the numbers surge here in the UK, and we make our way through the second lockdown this year, we are bound to be concerned about our wellbeing, (physical, emotional, and mental), as well as our financial security in the near future.
Unprecedented as this situation might be, it is possible to get through it, not just surviving it but thriving through it. Taking a spiritual lens could help us do just that – keeping perspective and having a proportionate and constructive response to the events unfolding in the world around us. Here is some food for thought on how one might approach this.
Thinking of our life as one chapter of a longer story, the soul’s journey, is one way to develop this perspective. This lifetime is but one incarnation of the higher soul. Everything we say and do here contributes to the development of the overall story, so it is important to be thoughtful in our actions/responses, knowing it’s one sequence in a much longer journey can aid being present in the moment without being overwhelmed by it.
Another helpful analogy from popular culture is thinking of any challenges we are faced with as an opportunity to ‘level up’ in the game of life. It is understood that we are born into this lifetime to learn from our experiences and progress in our soul’s journey. Coming at our life and the challenges we might be facing through the pandemic with this point of view makes it easier to respond with a ‘winning’ and ‘growth’ mindset, all the while keeping our calm and composure.
But how do we even know we are a soul having a physical, human experience? Have you ever found yourself running or painting or so engrossed in an activity that you feel you have zoned out of your physical body, so to speak, and are propelled forward by higher energy? Well, then you sort of know what we are talking about.
